Juniors Join the Ranks of the Bolingey Barbarians
News dateline: 29th April 2008
A new and younger generation of players became Barbarians at a recent Cornwall RFU festival.
Bolingey Barbarians RFC, based in Perranporth, normally draw their players from the more mature adult members of many Cornish clubs to play in charity matches; raising thousands of pounds for local good causes.
In a move to spread the Barbarian ethos further; junior teams have now been added to their ranks. Players from five different clubs volunteered to play in the two scratch sides that played under the 'Bolingey' banner in the County u14 7-a-side event at Liskeard/Looe RFC on 27th April 2008.
Speaking to the players, Bolingey committee member David Driver had said that friendships made on occasions like this can last a lifetime in rugby and the extra enjoyment and benefit of helping others was very special. Wearing the new sponsored shirts from Mitchell & Webber, the players all said that they really enjoyed the experience of being in a team with players from other clubs and as a small gesture made a collection which will go to a local Children's charity.
