Bodmin RFC U15s In Double Dutch
News dateline: 3rd June 2008
Bodmin U15s have just returned from a very sussesful tour in Holland. Playing against teams from Holland, France and Spain. Bodmin were drawn in a tough group including the regional Dutch Champions T-Gooi.
Playing 4 round robin games Bodmin came top of there group without conceding any points, and earned a semi-final against strong local team Hersomgate. Bodmin maintained there impressive form and ran out 15-0 winners in an entertaining game.
The final, to be played in front of a large crowd, was against the Dutch national champions Dukes RC who had recently won the national 15s and 7s cup. Bodmin started well and good pressure from the forwards led to Dukes making an error which Bodmin capitilised on and saw No.8 Connor Dymond cross to open the scoring.
The Dukes not used to being dominated in their forwards could never really get there talented backs going, and some sustained pressure led to Bodmin scoring 2 more tries by man of the match Connor Dymond.
Coach Mike Roberts said, "This was a great effort by the lads and brings a very sussesful season to an end. The boys have made 4 finals this year and won 2 of them, its a terrific achievment, not many sides can boast a win against national champions. I would also like to thank ASDA for letting us bag pack over 2 weekends, we managed to raise nearly £1400 which paid for all new kit, Wovina sponsored the team embroidered T-Shirts for the tour, and local buisness man Mark Williams sponsored one of the players so he could tour. Without these companies help we could not have toured."
