Penryn and Redruth Albany lead the way in Cornish Rugby awards night
St Austell Brewery welcomed the best of Cornish rugby to the Tribute sponsored South West Leagues, Cornish Rugby Union awards, celebrating another successful season for the sport across the county.
Penryn RFC picked up the Tribute Cornwall & Devon League title, with Veor RFC finishing top of Tribute Cornwall One with a 93.3 per cent winning league record.
St Agnes RFC came out top in Tribute Cornwall Two, finishing with a 100 per cent winning league record. The coveted You’ve Earned It award was presented to Redruth Albany RFC who, despite being close to closing the club down at the start of the season, rallied round with the help of the CB, players and supporters to end the season well.
Denis Preece, Chairman of Cornwall RFU, said, “It has been a great season, especially for junior rugby, it’s great to see the future of the game in such good health. The weather has been kind to us as well, meaning the leagues have run smoothly with very few rearranged fixtures. A huge thanks goes to the team at St Austell Brewery for supporting rugby in Cornwall in the way that they do.”
Philippa Skinner, Trade Marketing Executive for St Austell Brewery, said, “It’s been another fantastic year for Cornish Rugby and it’s great to see such competition amongst the teams. Rugby in the county is really strong now, and that is reflected in the success of the county side.”
