Mitsubishi Journey to Japan

Image

Across England more than 100,000 volunteers dedicate their time, energy and efforts to driving the game forward. From the helpers in the kitchen to the club secretary, a range of volunteers play a vital role in the development and delivery of rugby across the nation. They are vital pillars of the game and an essential bedrock for any club’s success and survival.

Mitsubishi Motors in the UK, Performance Partner of the RFU, is proud to support volunteering at all levels of English rugby. Which is why, in a hugely important year for the game, it wants to give back to this unsung community by offering volunteers the opportunity to journey to Japan this autumn and be part of an exciting knowledge exchange programme with local Japanese rugby clubs.

Launched in August, Journey to Japan offers volunteers the chance to head east, experience a culture like no other and see how a Japanese rugby club functions. Whilst in Japan, the volunteers will have an opportunity to meet with their counterparts from a local club – to share opinions and exchange views on the game.

To win a place on this amazing trip, Mitsubishi Motors would like to hear from you on how this enriching experience would help you help grow the game back in England. To be eligible to enter, volunteers must be aged 18 and over and hold an unpaid voluntary role at an RFU Recognised Rugby Club, RFU Constituent Body or Society. Entries should be submitted viawww.mitsubishi-motors.co.uk/journeytojapan  before 23.59 BST on the 31st August 2019.

Entrants will be required to answer three questions about their current role and how this opportunity will help realise the shared ambitions to keep people playing or involved in the game. A select group of finalists will be invited to pitch their ideas to England Rugby and Mitsubishi Motors UK on 17th September, before the winners are announced. Full terms and conditions apply.

Good luck to One & All.

Cornishmen Nowell & Cowan-Dickie named in World Cup Squad

Cornishmen Jack Nowell and Luke Cowan-Dickie were named in England's 31 man squad for the forthcoming  Rugby World Cup in Japan next month.

Cowan-Dickie impressed in England's warm up again against Wales at Twickenham on Sunday, whilst for Nowell it's a race to get fit ahead of the tournament.

Both players come from Newlyn and came through the ranks at Penzance & Newlyn and Truro College before progressing to Exeter Chiefs.

Speaking at the announcement England's Head Coach Eddie Jones said. “Today is another step in the progress towards the Rugby World Cup.

"We have taken the decision to go early because of what we learned from previous campaigns. We want the squad to know early and now we can get on and be the best prepared England side there has ever been, ready to win the World Cup.”

On the players not selected Jones added: “A lot of good players have missed out, we feel for them, I feel for them personally. But as we know the World Cup is an incredible tournament where opportunities can present themselves and all those players who have missed out have been told they have to be ready.”

England have three matches against Wales (17 August), Ireland (24 August) and Italy (6 September) before the tournament starts. Jones said of their importance: “Every game is an opportunity to improve our game fitness, our team cohesion, and our tactical adaptability. Each game for us will have a specific purpose.”

England will begin their Rugby World Cup campaign in Japan against Tonga in Sapporo (22 September, KO 11:15am UK time) before playing USA Rugby in Kobe (26 September, KO 11:45am UK time), Argentina in Tokyo (5 October, KO 09:00am UK time) and France in Yokohama (12 October, KO 09:15am UK time).
